How slab pricing works

Residential electricity in Pakistan is priced in bands, and the band you finish the month in sets the rate for every unit, not just the ones above the line. That is the whole reason a 301-unit bill (PKR 14,580) costs PKR 1,313 more than a 300-unit bill (PKR 13,267): all 301 units move from Rs 33.1 to Rs 36.46, and the fixed charge steps up with them.

Lifeline, up to 503.95, no fixed charge
Lifeline, 51 to 1007.74, no fixed charge

Protected consumers are the one exception. NEPRA's schedule gives them "the benefit of one previous slab": a protected home on 150 units pays the first 100 at Rs 10.54 and only the next 50 at Rs 13.01. To be protected you must have used 200 units or less in each of the last six months. Use 201 once and that month is billed as unprotected, which takes a 200-unit bill from about PKR 3,827 to PKR 9,037, and the next six months stay unprotected. That is the 200-unit cliff.

Lifeline is for single-phase connections with a 1 kW load using 100 units or less, at Rs 3.95 up to 50 units and Rs 7.74 from 51 to 100, with no fixed charge and no fuel or quarterly adjustment. A 100-unit lifeline bill is about PKR 962; the same 100 units unprotected is PKR 3,356.

The fixed charge is per kilowatt of sanctioned load per month and is charged whether or not you use anything, so a 5 kW connection pays five times the figure above. Where no fixed charge applies, the minimum bill is Rs 75 single-phase or Rs 150 three-phase.

Common questions

How much is a 300-unit electricity bill in Pakistan right now?

About PKR 13,267 for an unprotected home with a 1 kW load, if you are a tax filer. That is 300 units at Rs 33.1 (PKR 9,930), a fixed charge of PKR 350, the July 2026 fuel adjustment of PKR 617, the quarterly adjustment of PKR 156, electricity duty, 18% GST and the Rs 35 PTV fee. The same figure applies to LESCO, K-Electric and every other company, because the residential tariff is uniform nationwide.

Why does 301 units cost so much more than 300?

Because residential slabs are not telescopic: the band you land in sets the rate for every unit, not just the ones above the line. At 300 units all units are charged at Rs 33.1; at 301 all of them are charged at Rs 36.46, and the fixed charge rises too. So 300 units comes to about PKR 13,267 and 301 units to about PKR 14,580, a jump of PKR 1,313 for one unit.

What is a protected consumer, and what does the 200-unit cliff mean?

A protected consumer is a residential customer who used 200 units or less in each of the previous six months, and pays Rs 10.54 or Rs 13.01 a unit instead of Rs 22.44 or Rs 28.91. At 200 units a protected bill is about PKR 3,827; an unprotected one is PKR 7,932. Use 201 units once and that month is billed unprotected, about PKR 9,037, and you stay unprotected for the next six months.

Which figures on this page change every month?

The fuel charges adjustment, which NEPRA decides about five weeks after the month it is for and the companies bill the month after that. Right now the July 2026 adjustment of Rs 2.0581 a unit is on September 2026 bills; last month's was Rs 0.7503 for June 2026. A charge of Rs 1.7267 a unit for August 2026 has been requested for October 2026 bills and is not yet decided. The quarterly adjustment changes every three months, and the base slabs are now rebased each January.

Is the bill the same for LESCO, K-Electric, IESCO and the rest?

Yes for the tariff: the federal government notifies one uniform residential tariff for all ten ex-WAPDA companies and K-Electric, and since 2023 the same fuel and quarterly adjustments apply to K-Electric too. What can differ is the electricity duty (a provincial tax, 1.5% for residential supply in Punjab and Sindh), arrears, late-payment surcharges and any one-off instalments on your particular account.
