Gold in Pakistan is quoted per tola, not per gram, so a gram price is something you work out rather than look up. One number does all the work: a tola is 11.6638 grams.
What is 1 gram of gold worth in Pakistan?
One gram of 24K gold works out to PKR 44,061 as of 25 August 2026, from a 24K rate of PKR 513,920 per tola. Every purity below 24K is a fixed fraction of that figure, because purity scales the gold price directly.
| Purity | Purity factor | Per tola | Per gram |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K | 1.0 (the base rate) | PKR 513,920 | PKR 44,061 |
| 22K | 0.916 | PKR 470,751 | PKR 40,360 |
| 21K | 0.875 | PKR 449,680 | PKR 38,553 |
| 18K | 0.75 | PKR 385,440 | PKR 33,046 |

How do you convert a tola rate into a gram rate?
Divide the tola rate by 11.6638. One tola is 11.6638 grams and that conversion is fixed, so the same arithmetic works on any day’s rate and on any purity.
Price per gram = price per tola ÷ 11.6638
Going the other way, multiply the gram price by 11.6638. Worked on the 24K rate above:
513,920 ÷ 11.6638 = 44,061 per gram
Most people round a tola to about 11.66 grams, which is close enough for a rough check. For anything you are actually paying for, use the full figure — on a tola of 24K the rounding difference is a few hundred rupees.
Adjusting for purity
22K is 91.6% pure gold, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%, so multiply the 24K price by that fraction. A 22K gram is 0.916 × 44,061, or PKR 40,360.
What do common gram weights of gold cost?
The gram amounts people actually buy are 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 grams, and each is simply the gram rate multiplied out. Five and ten grams are the two sizes asked about most.
| Weight | 24K | 22K |
|---|---|---|
| 1 gram | PKR 44,061 | PKR 40,360 |
| 2.5 grams | PKR 110,153 | PKR 100,900 |
| 5 grams | PKR 220,306 | PKR 201,800 |
| 10 grams | PKR 440,611 | PKR 403,600 |
| 1 tola (11.6638 g) | PKR 513,920 | PKR 470,751 |
At the same rates, ten grams of 21K comes to PKR 385,535 and ten grams of 18K to PKR 330,458.
Why is the price you are quoted usually higher?
The rates above are for the metal alone. A jeweller’s bill adds three things on top, and making charges are normally the largest of them.
Making charges
Making charges typically run 8–15% on jewellery, and are often the biggest gap between the quoted rate and what you pay. On coins and bars they drop to roughly 2–3%.
Purity risk
Purity risk is the second gap, and it is invisible at the counter. An unhallmarked piece sold as 22K may not be 22K.
Buy-back spread
The buy-back spread is the third gap. The price a shop will pay you later is below the market rate on the day you sell. Ask what that deduction is before you buy, not after.
How do you sanity-check a gold quote in your head?
A gram of 24K runs a little under one-twelfth of the tola rate, so no calculator is needed. If a tola is around 514,000, a gram should be somewhere near 44,000.
Quoted 50,000 a gram for 24K, the extra is making charges or margin — and you are entitled to ask which. For 22K, take about 92% of the 24K gram price. For 21K, about seven-eighths.
Why do people buy gold by the gram?
Because a full tola costs PKR 513,920 as of 25 August 2026, and buying one in a single go means finding half a million rupees at once. That is the reason most people who want to own gold end up owning none.
Buying gold by the gram instead — 1 gram, 2.5 grams, 5 grams — turns the same purchase into an amount a monthly budget can carry, and the arithmetic on this page is how you check what a gram should cost on the day you commit.
