21 carat gold costs PKR 449,680 per tola in Pakistan as of 25 August 2026. It is the karat jewellers push hardest, and the reasons are practical rather than financial.
What is the 21K gold price in Pakistan today?
As of 4:04pm PKT on 25 August 2026, 21 carat gold is PKR 449,680 per tola and PKR 38,553 per gram. Every karat is priced off the same 24K rate — multiply by the purity factor and you have the number. No jeweller sets these independently.
| Purity | Gold content | Per tola | Per gram |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K | 99.9% | PKR 513,920 | PKR 44,061 |
| 22K | 91.6% | PKR 470,751 | PKR 40,360 |
| 21K | 87.5% | PKR 449,680 | PKR 38,553 |
| 18K | 75.0% | PKR 385,440 | PKR 33,046 |
One tola is 11.6638 grams. For the live figure, check today’s gold rate in Pakistan, or the price per gram for smaller pieces.
Two gaps are worth sitting with. 21K is PKR 21,071 per tola cheaper than 22K — real money on one tola, over PKR 63,000 on a three-tola set, roughly the difference between including a pair of earrings and not.
21K is also PKR 64,240 per tola more expensive than 18K, and that is where people over-economise. Dropping to 18K means owning a quarter less gold, and you feel it when you sell.
What does 21 carat gold actually mean?
Carat is a purity fraction out of 24, so 21 carat gold is 21 parts gold to 3 parts other metal — 87.5% pure. The remaining 12.5% is usually copper, silver or zinc, added deliberately.
That alloy is not adulteration. Pure 24K gold is soft enough to bend under a firm grip, which is why nobody makes a daily-wear bangle from it. Alloying hardens the metal, so a 21K chain survives daily wear.
On a hallmarked piece, purity is stamped as parts per thousand:
| Karat | Purity | Hallmark |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 99.9% | 999 |
| 22K | 91.6% | 916 |
| 21K | 87.5% | 875 |
| 18K | 75.0% | 750 |
The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) uses this same numbering, and it matches the Gulf retail convention — which is why 21K jewellery bought in Dubai and 21K jewellery bought in Karachi carry the same mark.
Why do jewellers keep steering you to 21K?
Because 21 carat gold behaves best in a workshop and on a wrist. Three practical reasons, none about purity:
| Reason | What it means at the counter |
|---|---|
| Durability | At 87.5%, gold holds a setting, keeps an engraved edge and resists the dents a bangle collects in ordinary use |
| Price point | 21K lands just below 22K, so a jeweller can show you a heavier piece for the same budget — and weight is what most buyers really optimise for |
| Gulf demand | 21K is the retail default across the UAE and much of the Gulf, so Pakistani families with relatives there buy it and send it home |
None of this makes 21K better than 22K in the abstract. It makes it better at being jewellery.
Where does 21K gold cost you?
The metal price is not what you pay for 21K jewellery, and it is not what you get back either. Two separate deductions apply.
Making charges
On top of the metal sits ujrat — making charges — which vary with how much work the piece took. A plain machine-made chain sits at the low end. A handworked bridal set, kundan, meenakari, anything with stones, sits considerably higher.
Making charges are not recoverable. When you sell, the buyer values the gold and nothing else — the craftsmanship you paid a premium for is worth zero on the scale.
The purity deduction on resale
Sell 10 grams of 21K jewellery and you are selling 8.75 grams of gold — 10 × 87.5%. At the rate of 25 August 2026 that is PKR 385,530 of metal, before the buyer’s own margin.
When should you buy 21K instead of 22K or 18K?
Buy 21 carat gold when you intend to wear it, and something else when you intend to hold it. The choice follows the purpose, not the price.
| If you want | Buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday bangles, chains, rings, studs | 21K | You want the hardness, and you are buying an object you will use |
| An heirloom or bridal set | 22K | Higher purity, traditionally what Pakistani wedding sets are made in, and it holds its position decades later |
| Fine, stone-set, Western-style designs | 18K | Cheaper for a reason — a poor choice if the real motive is to hold gold |
| To accumulate value | A 24K coin | No making charges, no design premium, no argument about purity at resale |
That last row is where 21K is simply the wrong instrument — not because it is impure, but because you would be paying a workshop for labour you do not need. If a coin is what you are after, a gold committee builds one on a fixed monthly instalment instead of a lump sum.
So: wear 21K, save in 24K. They are answers to two different questions, and most people only ever get asked the first one.
