One tola of 24K gold costs PKR 503,800 today. Almost nobody has that sitting spare, which is why buying gold a month at a time is now the normal way in rather than the poor relation.

What is a gold committee?

A gold committee is a savings plan with a metal at the end of it. You commit to a fixed monthly amount for a set number of months, and when the last instalment clears you receive a physical gold coin of an agreed weight.

It is not a loan and nothing is advanced to you. You are buying a specific weight of gold and paying for it over time instead of in one go.

How does the price lock work?

The price lock is the part that does the real work, and it is the part people ask about least.

Your rate is fixed when the committee starts and the first instalment is paid. From then on your monthly figure does not move, whatever the market does.

What happens to the rate What happens to your bill
Gold rallies after you start Nothing. You pay the locked price
Gold falls after you start Nothing. You pay the locked price
Gold moves while you are still deciding Everything — the lock only applies once you have started

Three ways to buy gold over time

Not every instalment route gets you the same thing, and the differences are mostly about what you can prove.

Route What you get The catch
Jeweller’s own scheme Usually credit against jewellery Rarely documented; making charges of 8-15% are added at the end
Informal committee, then buy Cash in your payout month You still face the rate on the day you buy, whatever it has done meanwhile
Gold committee A fixed weight of 24K, price locked You must hold the instalment for the full term

The middle row is the one people miss. Running a cash committee and buying gold with the payout is a perfectly reasonable plan, but it leaves you exposed to ten months of rate movement. A gold plan removes that variable by pricing the metal up front.

What Oraan Gold actually offers

Oraan Gold runs as a committee over 6, 8 or 10 months, with instalments starting from PKR 6,350 a month.

What to check before you commit

Ask any provider — Oraan included — the same five questions.

  1. What weight do I receive, and in what purity? A plan quoted only in rupees is not a gold plan.
  2. Is the price locked, and locked from when? From application or from first payment are different things.
  3. What does a missed instalment cost? On Oraan Gold it is PKR 1,000 per miss.
  4. What does cancelling cost? Oraan’s fee runs from 8% of what you have paid early on to 20% once you are past 81% complete.
  5. Who certifies the gold? ARY certification with a QR code is checkable. A verbal assurance is not.

Oraan Tech Pvt Ltd is an SECP registered company, NTN 5039622-0, operating since 2018. Oraan Committees carry a Shariah certificate from Safwah Shariah Advisory with Mufti Usama Ehsan.

Common questions

Can I buy gold on installments in Pakistan?

Yes. The common route is a gold committee, also called a gold savings plan, where you pay a fixed amount every month and receive physical gold at the end rather than cash. Oraan Gold runs over 6, 8 or 10 months with instalments from PKR 6,350, and delivers an ARY-certified 24K coin free and insured once the final instalment is paid. Some jewellers run their own informal schemes, which work the same way but without a written contract.

Does the gold price change during my instalment plan?

Not for you. With Oraan Gold the rate is fixed when your committee starts and your first instalment is paid, so your monthly amount stays the same for the whole plan. That protects you from a rally partway through. It also means a fall in the rate does not reduce what you owe, because you have already agreed a price for a fixed weight of gold.

What gold do you actually receive at the end?

A physical 24K gold coin, ARY-certified, carrying a QR code that confirms its authenticity, weight and purity. It is dispatched to your address after the last instalment is paid, and delivery is free and insured. You are buying metal in a specific weight, not a paper balance or a credit in an app.

Is there interest on a gold instalment plan?

Oraan states there is no interest involved in its gold plans, and Oraan is not a lender — nobody is advancing you cash. Oraan Committees hold a Shariah certificate from Safwah Shariah Advisory, with Mufti Usama Ehsan of Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi. Ask any provider to put the total you will pay and the weight you will receive in writing before you start.

What happens if I miss an instalment or want to cancel?

A missed instalment on an Oraan Gold plan carries a PKR 1,000 late payment charge. If you cancel midway, the cancellation fee scales with how far you have got: 8% of what you have paid at 0-20% complete, rising through 12%, 15% and 18%, to 20% once you are 81-100% through. Cancelling late is expensive, so pick an instalment you can hold for the full duration.
